NAME THE DOG DECK CONTEST

Wow, we would have never guessed so many folks would offer so many suggestions!  We are opening up the request one more time to invite folks to suggest a name for the new Dog Deck that is coming in 2004.

The name of the deck is still in the air, but the theme is simple.  DOGS!  Using our seek-n-find techniques (called semi-transformational in the playing card world) we will invite Central Ohio folks and their dogs into our store for a mini photo op.  To find out more information about the Dog Deck go here.

WHY IN THE WORLD DO YOU SELL MONOPOLY GAMES?

This is a very frequent question for us.  What does monopoly style games have to do with playing cards?  The truth is...very little.  Before Newt's Playing Cards got it's name, it was called Newton's Novelties.  As a novelty store we carried just about anything, including both playing cards and monopoly games.  In December of 2002 we decided to change our name to Newt's Playing Cards.  At that time we were going to discontinue the monopoly games, we had even told the suppliers we were not going to carry their products anymore.  We just couldn't do it.  During the 2002 holiday season we sold tons of monopoly games and many folks were still coming to the old Newton's Novelties website wanting them.  So in July of this year, we decided to carry them at Newt's Playing Cards.  The only items in the store that do not directly deal with playing cards in some manor.  Well, I guess they do have those little yellow and orange cards in them...does that count?

CARD SHARKS (CARD JOKE)

Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the years they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards.

One day they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, "Now don't get mad at me.....I know we've been friends for a long time, but I just can't remember your name. I've thought and thought, but I can't recall it. Please tell me what
your name is."

Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just looked at her. Finally she said,

NEWT'S BUSY BEARS 'SEEK-N-FIND' DECK RESCHEDULED FOR RELEASE

The next up and coming deck from Newt's Playing Cards publishing is Busy Bears (drawn by U.K. Artist Peter Wood).  Originally scheduled for release this fall, we have rescheduled it for a spring 2004 release. 

Each "Busy Bear" in this deck will be shown in various types of work uniforms and work settings.  A fun deck for teddy bear fans and card collectors alike.

LIMITED EDITION OF WILD! ARRIVES IN ZOOS

Another Zoo has added the WILD! deck to their zoo store...Central Florida Zoo ( http://www.centralfloridazoo.org/home.htm ) will soon have them in stock for everyone down there to snag. The specific style of cards that Newt's Playing Cards likes to produce are what we call "seek-n-find" playing cards.  To the card industry they are known as semi-transformational playing cards.  A couple of months ago the deck started shipping to various zoos throughout the USA in an effort to bring our fun twist to the world.  If you work in, or know someone who works in a zoo (no pun intended), please pass on our information to them.

A game is going hot and heavy, in which each of the players is a man of the cloth. At about midnight a policeman bursts into the room. "All right, break it up!" One clergyman says, "Break what up?"
"Come on. I know you've been playing cards. The policeman looks the priest straight in the eye.  "Have you been playing poker, Padre?"
The priest says, "Of course not." 
"How about you, Reverend Cagle?"  The Lutheran minister shakes his head.
"Me, play cards?" Rabbi Stein also denies playing, as do two of the other men.
The policeman asks the Baptist minister, the last man left, "How about you Reverend? Have you been playing cards?"  The Baptist minister says, "With whom?"

This one has more email request than I can possible list here.  I will attempt to answer some of the questions today and maybe answer more in a future edition.

Our first email says, "How long does it take me to get the cards after I order them?"
After we receive your order and photos it usually takes about 4-5 days for us to process and another 2-5 days to arrive to you.  We are asking folks to please plan ahead for the holidays.  Last year a lot of folks wanted to order late in the game and there was no way we could keep up.

Email two, "Can I put a picture of my favorite professional sports team on a deck?"
Wow, we only wish we could.  Unfortunately this would be breaking copyright laws and more.  We are unable to put any licensed photo or saying on any deck of cards.
