Cards to Collect & Treasure
|
This months pick is a
collectors dream come true! We have gotten our hands on a
limited amount of 22 year old playing cards called Army/Navy Playing
Cards. They were designed to celebrate the 100 years of U.S.
Playing Card Company in 1981 and have been out of print for over 20
years. The cards are 22 year old replicas of cards that were
printed in 1881!
Here is the print inside the deck, "The year was 1881.
The place, Cincinnati. Two printers named Russell and Morgan
started to produce playing cards. Army, Navy, and Congress,
today's most respected bridge card."
"The decks enclosed (in this case) have been
reproduced from the original Army and Navy decks printed by our
(U.S. Playing Cards) forerunners in 1881."
"The "US" on the box is now known as The United States
Playing Card Company. And the "Statue of Freedom" spade
trademark enhances our (U.S. Playing Cards) Congress and
world famous Bicycle brands."
"Share in our feeling of accomplishment over the past
100 years (these cards were printed in 1981) as you enjoy
playing with these "old" cards, today."
If you
missed this one when it was first released in 1981, then this is
your chance. We have a very limited amount of these
high-quality, mint, brand new playing cards in a case. First
come, first serve.
Go to
Vintage Army/Navy Playing Cards to buy them before they are
gone, again.

Newt's Cards From the Past
|
This deck of Vintage playing cards entitled
Steamboat Squeezer Playing Cards
manufactured by the N.Y. Consolidated Card
Co New York circa 1800s (My guess is 1880-1900). Half of
the Internal Rev. Stamp still remains. On the inside lid is an ink
stamp that reads 2045. The name of the original owner (Reed)
is written in pencil on the front and back of the box. The box
and cards are well used but still in great condition, considering
how old they are. There are no tears, rips or dog-ears. The back is
listed as No. 85.
The deck includes 53 cards. The Ace of Spades has
the Consolidated Card Company with Samuel Hart & Co. listed.
Card 53 of the deck is the "Best Bower" card which is known as the
Joker of its day.
The address on the back of the box is listed as:
The New York Consolidated Card Company
222, 224, 225 & 228 West 14th St. N.Y.
This deck was bought off eBay. A nice addition to our
collection that will look great in our museum. If you are
online now you can click the photo to see a
closer look.
Please note that these cards are just for viewing purposes.
We are not selling this deck of Playing Cards.

Playing Card Term of the Month...
Non-Standard Courts
Decks with Non-standard Courts have unusual
jacks, queens and kings. For example, I have decks where the
jacks and queens and kings are: Cartoon characters, people from
the Bible, dogs, all female, politicians, characters from
novels, drunks, skeletons, and many, many more. Look around the
Gallery - that's mostly what's on display here.
