Playing Card Museum! |
|
Our dream, a Playing
Card Museum.
Yep, believe it or
not. We have a dream of opening a playing card museum that
features playing cards from around the world. "Why," you
ask? Because Playing Cards offer a glimpse into each
generation unlike any other form of art. Playing cards are
universal and have multiple uses. From gambling to a
family get together playing cards are a regular part of not only
American life, but the world.
With the
opening of our store in July of
2003 (the grand opening was Sept. 2003), we are well on our way to being able to open our museum in
the near future. Our store already features old decks of
cards along with a set of 4 foot long, mosaic art playing cards
near the front of the store.
With the moving of our store to Circleville, OH
in 2006 we have started to feature some of the old decks in our
mini-museum. Our dream is to move to an older building in
downtown Circleville and have a small playing card museum next
to our store. |

What started this craze? |
|
A few years ago Newt's Dad started collecting
playing cards. What started out as just a hobby has now turned
into an exciting business. With a grand total of somewhere
between 3,000 - 4,000 decks, Newt's Dad continues to add to the
collection. Soon Newt's Dad plans to organize and list the
collection so we will have a more accurate count.
Along with actual playing cards Newt's Dad began
collecting items that go along with playing cards such as old
shufflers, dishes and more. |
|
How does Newt's store fall
into play? |
|
With over 1700 modern decks for sale at Newt's
and about a hand full of decks that are 30+ years old or more,
we hope to continue to be not only a major player in the field,
but the major player in the U.S. |
|
Short Term Goal |
|
Newt's Short Term Goal for the store:
Our playing card superstore has plans of having over 2000 decks
to offer by year end. The hardest part of this is for
every deck we add, we usually have one that is discontinued.
For the Museum: We continue to
accumulate items and place them either in our store for folks to
see or we put them in storage.
At this time we have a few decks of 100+ years
old in our personal collection, but this only gives us a small
starting point for the museum. |
|
Long Term Goal |
|
Long Term Goal: With the ongoing success
of Newt's Playing Card Superstore we hope to open up a small
museum highlighting some of the outstanding playing cards we
have been collecting. From art to sports, cartoons to
educational, playing cards cross all barriers and fall into just
about everyone's life in some way. Our dream is to open a
museum for the family, encouraging folks in the collecting and
playing of playing cards. |
